Nowadays the newest gadgets, enhanced gear, and other camping necessities are advertised widely. Magazines and television programmes feature them as well as the latest and greatest camp destinations. This vast range of new and improved products and newly revealed retreats for campers are an attraction to both professional and amateur campers. Non-camping people are also encouraged to try the activity as a new hobby or business.
But before joining the ranks of campers, a beginner should bear in mind the basics of camping. Unlike professionals and seasoned campers, first-time campers need to familiarise themselves with the fundamental requirements.
A beginner must remember the following when going on a camping/hiking activity:
* Choice of Boots
Aside from protecting the feet, boots help the camper to be comfortable and sure-footed. You should choose a well fitting pair.
* Choice of the Correct Backpack
Backpacks come in different sizes and styles. Don’t choose a bag because it looks big. Aim for a bag that can contain more but is not heavy and bulky to carry.
* Choice of Tent
Keeping in mind its bulk and weight, choose the largest size that can be easily carried. A spacious tent will allow the camper space to stretch out comfortably while sleeping, and will also allow for the free circulation of air. Be sure to check the shelter has a good ventilation system.
* Travel light
Be strict. Eliminate anything that is not necessary for camping.
However, the items that follow are essentials:
— Water (at least 1 liter for short hikes)— Compass or Map— Extra light clothes— First aid kit— Matches— Swiss Knife— Rain gear— Food— Flashlight— Personals (toothbrush, soap, shampoo, etc.)— Cooking equipment (stove, pan, dipper )
* Take the Correct Food
Canned foods are ideal. Don’t bring foods that will spoil quickly. You should avoid foods with sauces and gravy and other wet foods that might leak into your bag. Do not bear fruit which is easily damaged. Foods rich in carbohydrates like noodles, rice, and cheese are beneficial. However, don’t get too hung up overeating. The main thing is to be sure that it won’t spoil or spill. If you’re staying more number of days, prepare something like a one week meal plan.
Hiking and camping are all about enjoyment, and that is most important. These tips will hopefully help to increase the pleasure of anyone taking part in this activity and also assist in ensuring their safety and comfort.
